Individual Note:   The birth record for her children identifies Maren as "Maren Kirstine Nielsen." Her father was Nels or Niels Pedersen, but at this time children received the father's first name, with "sen" after it, as a surname.

Individual Note:   Soren worked in several different places, as Katrine later remembered. At one time he was a fireman in a boiler room in Sofie Amaliegaard (old Hornslet). He also worked in a candy factory, as did his son, Peter. But Soren felt it wasn't a healthy place to work He was also a miller, and bought the Ormslev Molle in 1902.

Individual Note:   Her name on the birth/baptismal records is Ane Cathrine Christensen.

Ane Katrine (Brahe Christensen) Sorensen died from after-effects of childbirth in 1888, within a year after her daughter Ane Katrine Bothilde was born. Her son Julius used the name Brahe as a middle name for all his sons. The origin of this name within the family is uncertain, as it has not been found on any baptismal records. It may have come from the area around Grenaa-Ebeltoft, according to our relative Bodil.

Is there a connection with famous Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe? At this point it is only an intriguing possibility. Read about him at the following web sites (or simply do an internet search for his name):

Individual Note:   Her name is sometimes spelled as: Hilda Cathrine Christjansen.

Denmark was taken over by the Germans in 1936. World War II was raging. Just before Hilda died in 1942, she said she was so glad that America had entered the war, because that meant that Denmark would be liberated.
